August 3, 2012: Getting it Home

I found this somewhat intact motorhome and the more I looked at it, the more intact it appeared. It is clear this was lovingly cared for by its previous owner/user. I say it this way because its owner passed on several years ago, and the kids/heirs basically just parked it and let it begin to decompose.

These pics are after we moved it from Aransas Pass to Gregory, pulled by a 3/4 ton Chevrolet pickup. Oh, the humiliation, of a Ford being pulled by a Chevy! We took back roads as much as possible to minimize the embarrassment ;)

Hi. I do a lot of different things, whatever it takes to make money around my schedule of caring for my quadriplegic wife. I build furniture to order, I do any sort of handyman-type work, and occasionally, I'll collect up a load of scrap metal and take it to the recycler's. This motorhome was bought with the intent of parting it out and sending it to the scrapper.

I found this somewhat intact motorhome for a little bit of nothing (as my neighbor from Belize puts it) with the intent of scrapping it out, and the more I looked at it, the more intact it appeared. It is clear this was lovingly cared for by its previous owner/user. I say it this way because its owner passed on several years ago, and the kids/heirs basically just parked it and let it begin to decompose.

As I post here, it'll be different things I've discovered which need attention and my cheap fix for these issues. I've never taken something to a shop to be repaired unless I've already tried to fix it and screwed it up worse! Such will be the case here.

Many times, my dad and I have stumbled onto a fix on a piece of farm equipment, by just using our heads, and arrived at a working solution. As he's said many times, we did it that way because we didn't know that the experts said it won't work that way!

So, here goes. Updates will be sporadic, as I have time to play with the beached whale, and will likely be photo intensive.

Oh, and one other thing.... my enthusiasm for actually posting on this blog will be directly proportional to the rate at which the "DONATE" button gets hit, compared to the page views. You might just learn something here, and the only right thing to do is trade for it, if the knowledge isn't freely given. Thanks :)
